Kechen Motor Frequently Asked Question
All FAQ
What kind of brush is used in the motor?
We mainly use two types of brushes: metal brushes and carbon brushes. The choice depends on factors such as motor speed, current carrying capacity, and expected service life.
Metal brushes are typically used in small motors (e.g., toys, fans), offering lower cost but shorter service life and higher commutator wear. Carbon brushes are preferred for larger motors (e.g., power tools, industrial equipment), providing longer service life and reduced commutator wear at a higher cost.
For small, low-cost motors we typically select metal brushes; for high-performance or long-life requirements, carbon brushes are preferred.
What are the noise levels of your motors? Do you have silent motors?
Motor noise is categorized into two types: mechanical noise (related to motor structure and speed) and electrical noise (mainly from brush-commutator friction). Noise levels vary by power and speed, typically ranging from 50 dB to 70 dB.
We optimize designs (e.g., brush materials, rotor balancing) to meet customer noise requirements.
What are the typical applications of your motors?
Kechen Micro Motors are used in various industries, including:
- Automotive (window lifts, seat adjusters, smart lock actuators…)
- Home appliances & smart home (mixers, fans, coffee machines, smart curtains, smart locks…)
- Medical & beauty devices (infusion pumps, surgical tools, beauty instruments…)
- Fitness equipment (resistance training machines, reverse thrust devices, pulleys…)
- Power tools (drills, angle grinders…)
- Industrial automation (conveyors, actuators, fiber fusion splicers…)
- Robotics & 3D printing (competition robots, 3D printers, educational robots…)
- Toys & hobby (RC cars, electronic toys…)
- Commercial equipment (vending machines, shared bike locks…)
Customization according to specific industry requirements is also available.
What is the design life of your motors? How is it ensured?
Motor life depends on load, environment, and maintenance. Under rated conditions, brushed motors typically achieve 200–500 hours, and brushless motors 2000–5000+ hours.
Life assurance measures include:
- Material selection
- Life testing under simulated operating conditions
- Quality control during production
What ingress protection (IP) ratings can your motors achieve?
Standard motors are rated IP40 (indoor use, protection against solid objects). Higher protection levels such as IP54, IP65 (dust-proof, splash-proof) can be provided upon request.
Can you provide motor performance curves or 3D drawings?
For our standard motor platforms, performance curves (torque-speed, efficiency) and basic dimensional drawings are available upon request. For custom designs, these documents are generated based on your specific requirements and can be provided during the sample development phase. Please contact our engineering team with your detailed specifications for further assistance. A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) can be signed if needed.
Do you have standard motors or are they all custom?
We focus on customized solutions, but also maintain a range of standard platforms that can be quickly adapted. If you have specific application requirements, please provide your technical specifications and we will recommend a suitable solution.
What customization options do you offer?
Adjustable parameters include:
- Shaft specifications (length, diameter, dual-shaft, stepped shafts)
- Electrical parameters (voltage, power ratings, rated current, winding configuration)
- Mechanical configuration (motor thickness/length, mounting brackets, flange dimensions)
- Feedback and control (encoder types, Hall sensors, driver integration)
- Gearbox configurations (spur gear, planetary gear, worm gear, leadscrew)
- Terminal and lead wire options (orientation, connector type, waterproof heat-shrink tubing, lead length)
- Surface treatments and coatings (e.g., nickel plating, anti-corrosion coating)
Please provide your specific requirements and we will assess feasibility.
Do you have products in stock? Can I get samples?
All motors are made to order; we do not maintain finished goods inventory.
Sample policy:
- Free samples available for low-cost motors (limited quantities), with shipping costs borne by the customer.
- Paid samples apply for larger quantities or highly customized products.
Sample lead time: DC motors 10–15 days, gear motors 15–20 days (special customization may extend lead time).
Samples are intended for pre-order testing and can be provided subject to MOQ and pricing conditions. Preferential terms are available for volume production orders.
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
Typical MOQ is 100 pieces. For new projects requiring small trial runs, please inform us of your estimated annual quantity and we can discuss trial orders.
How do I get a quote? Do you have a price list?
As all our motors are custom-designed, we do not maintain a standard price list.
To obtain a quote: Please provide detailed specifications and estimated annual quantity. Our sales team will respond with a customized quotation within 2–3 working days.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept:
- T/T (Telegraphic Transfer) – our most common payment method
- PayPal for small sample payments
A 50% deposit is required before production, with the balance due before shipment.
Do your motors have certifications (e.g., CE, RoHS, UL)?
We can design and manufacture motors to meet various international certification requirements, including CE certification for the European market, RoHS certification for environmental compliance, and UL safety certification for North America. For other certification requirements, please advise us of your specific needs.
What tests are performed before shipment?
All motors undergo routine tests: no-load current and speed, dielectric strength, and visual inspection.
Sampling tests (load performance, noise measurement, life testing) are performed according to our standard procedures. Special testing requirements can be discussed based on project needs.
Detailed test reports can be provided upon request.
What after-sales support do you offer? How are quality issues handled?
If quality issues arise, please provide photos/videos and order information. We will analyze the cause and, if attributable to our responsibility, discuss appropriate solutions with you. Our technical team can also assist with installation or troubleshooting questions.
How do you protect customers' design intellectual property?
A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) can be signed before sharing sensitive information. We have a long history of cooperation with global customers without any IP infringement incidents.
What shipping options are available? Which countries/regions can you deliver to?
We cooperate with international logistics companies and support:
- International express (DHL, FedEx, UPS) – 3–5 days, door-to-door
- Air freight – 7–10 days to major airports
- Sea freight – 20–30 days (FCL or LCL)
Delivery is available to any country or region worldwide. Please advise your preferred method and we will arrange the most suitable shipping solution.
